Site & Group Guidelines

This is a virtual extension of our public library spaces. Be mindful that many people of differing ages, opinions, and concerns are also using this space.

Site Tour:

  • The right-hand side bar shows YOUR activity: log-in; who else is online right now; groups you in which you participate; space for you to invite others to the DLVLC; a SEARCH box; the archives; and a list of recent blogs.
  • Above the header photograph you will find a variety ways to connect with us using social media and our website.
  • Below the header photograph are the links for movement within the Dorcas Virtual Learning Center.
    • Home: You can return to the home page using this link; or, you can click the Dorcas Library: Learning Virtually Anywhere icon in the header photograph bar.
    • Activity: This shows who has been active recently on the site, and what groups or wikis have been updated.
    • Wiki: Wikis are user-generated documents. You can create a wiki to describe subjects in which you are an expert. You can add to, comment on, or sometimes change content in wikis created by others. Because we advocate evidence-based research and wish to uphold intellectual property rights where applicable, please cite sources for your materials if you have them.
    • People: This tab shows you a list of who uses the site, and the last time they were here. If you click on your own profile, you can add a photograph or avatar, you can change how often you receive notifications by email, and you can edit your name and email. If you click on another person’s profile, you can send that individual a private message.
    • Groups:  Obviously, this provides a list of all available groups on the DLVLC. There are some administrative groups which are not visible in the listing. You can sort the groups using the drop-down menu by Alphabetical, Most Active, Most Recent, Most Members.
    • Dorcas Chat:  This function is an open chat of anyone who happens to be online, and can be seen by everyone who checks in at any time. A public chat of all members.  NOTE: If you want to chat privately with any member, go to PEOPLE, select their profile from the list, and
    • Dorcas Learning Center: This page describes what is intended and what is happening at 27 Main Street, the Dorcas Learning Center building. Please feel free to share a link to this page with anyone you believe would be interested in the project!

Guidelines:

  1. Be respectful.
  2. Assume that everyone here already knows your personal opinions about politics, religion, sexuality, etc.
  3. Use the site to create a deeper, more meaningful dialogue. So, discussing the history of political parties is IN; repeatedly bashing one politician is OUT. Discussing world religions and their threads of commonality or their differences is IN; insisting one religion or spiritual worldview is the ONLY correct one is OUT. Discussing the human sexuality spectrum, health and wellness, physiology is IN; telling inappropriate and lewd anecdotes is OUT.
  4. Bullying and harassment of any sort is not acceptable.
  5. Manage your anger off-site, please.
  6. Administrators will be in every group. Let us know how we can help.
