All Things Shakespeare 8 years, 1 month agoOur Shakespeare conversation was quite lively yesterday. Really exciting!
After our personal introductions, we began with a brief glimpse at the history leading up to the “Elizabethan Age.” Here are some of the videos we watched and discussed together:
Introduction to the Elizabethan Age, Dr. Tarnya Cooper, National Portrait Gallery [UK],…[Read more]

Anyone have time to reach out to these communities and ask how the program is working…[Read more]

Civics & Community 8 years, 1 month agoThis conversation is about recording what we love our about community – the greater Schoodic community. Then, we can begin to visualize how to hold on to the atmosphere and energy we love, but build toward a sustainable future for the community.
Here is a website, and a few books I am beginning this semester. The website is for the Orton Family…[Read more]

Book Chat 8 years, 1 month agoI enjoy Heinlein, as well. I think my favorite is Friday, followed closely by I will Fear No Evil. However, the book I recommend most frequently has to be Revolt in 2100, written in 1953, and so apt today.

Book Chat 8 years, 1 month agodepends on the book/author. I will read something new and go, meh, it was alright once. but the books i own are the ones i will reread. of course it is easier to get them at the library or in ebook form first, requires less room than second hand books and cheaper than buying them new.
I like Robert Heinlein, Stephen R. Donaldson, Patricia A.…[Read more]

Book Chat 8 years, 1 month agoAs for me, I am a re-reader. Certain favorites are comfort soul food. Like macaroni and cheese for the brain. Here are a few: anything by Jane Austen or Louisa May Alcott; The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien; Alice’s Adventures, Lewis Carroll; The Once & Future King, TH White.
This week, the world lost Ursula K. LeGuin, author of…[Read more]

Faith started the topic Books:Colin Woodard in the forum
Civics & Community 8 years, 1 month agoSo, I highly recommend Colin Woodard for a greater understanding of regional politics. Maine history is featured in The Lobster Coast. American history in The American Character.
Lucid. Readable. Well-reasoned.
